Consoles: The quiet hero of the home
Console tables may be best known for ‘that place you plonk your keys’ in the hallway, but they’re one of the most versatile pieces of furniture you can own.
Originally designed in 17th-century France, console tables were often decorative pieces fixed to walls beneath mirrors. More about looks than practicality, they were designed as stages to display treasured objects, candles and floral displays - creating a statement as guests entered a home.
Thankfully they have evolved into something much more adaptable (and useful!) in our modern homes.

The Jaxon Console

Whilst a console table is perfect for keys, post and maybe a lamp, we think they can work just as well elsewhere in your joyful home…
Behind a sofa
A slim console creates a natural divide in open-plan spaces - if your sofa is ‘floating’ the console grounds it into place, not to mention giving you an opportunity to add lamps, books and a cool vase.
In a dining room
Dining tables often take up a lot of space in a room, but there’s usually space for a console to use as a serving area during dinner parties (and a useful spot to safely place wine) or use it to add life and style to this practical room by adding ceramics or some gorgeous blooms.
As a dressing table
A narrow console paired with a mirror and stool makes for a super dressing table where space is at a premium. Plus consoles often have useful drawers for brushes and make up.
In the bathroom
As long as it’s away from the really wet areas, a console can be a brilliant addition to a larger bathroom. Display neatly folded, fluffy towels and trays with perfumes and fancy moisturisers on them. Maybe a candle and a bowl for jewellery - anything that turns this often clinical room into a place to lounge and pamper.
WFH
Position a console against a wall to display favourite and inspiring books, organise files or even create a compact work from home area - if all you need is a laptop, then all you need is a console!
The Clara Console
Often deemed to be a ‘nice extra’ - we think a console is actually one of the hardest working pieces of furniture you could add to your home. Always the quiet ones isn’t it?
