At Rose & Grey we care about the way we do business.
We are only small, but we are trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible. So far, this is what we do:
- We aim to source products from responsible suppliers that use sustainable and ethical practices. This includes choosing furniture crafted from mango wood, items made from natural or recycled materials, and buying from brands who respect Fair Trade principles.
- All our packaging is biodegradable or recycled or both.
- All our leaflets and letterheads are printed on 100% recycled paper.
- All our paper, cardboard, plastic and glass is collected by a local social enterprise for recycling.
- We group our deliveries together, wherever possible, to minimize our impact on the environment.
- Some improvements have already been made to make our business more responsible, but we understand that we have more work to do.
As a small, family-run company, Rose and Grey believes in building a long-term responsible and sustainable business. Our family values inform how we behave, and it is because of those that we care not just about what we do, but the way we do it.
We have many suppliers who we work with to enable us to provide a wide range of products. When we choose suppliers, we look for companies that share our values and who create quality products whilst minimising their negative impacts on society and maximising their positive ones. A number of brands we work with, such as Nkuku and Madam Stoltz actively work with their supply chain to improve education and working conditions in the countries where their goods are manufactured.
We have met all our suppliers, and all products that we sell have been opened, assembled and tested by our team before we put them on sale. For upholstery products made in the U.K and Poland, we have personally visited the factories where the goods are made, and met and talked with the people who make the furniture. As part of our commitment to managing our supply chain, we are currently working through our supplier list to ensure that they all have policies in place regarding worker’s rights and their own supply chains.
In our own business, we are committed to paying the Living Wage as opposed to the minimum wage, and we have a range of staff benefits that aim to make working at Rose and Grey fulfilling and fun. During the pandemic, we have given staff the flexibility of working from home, providing everything that they need for their new working situations. We also ensure that the office, warehouse and showroom are compliant with up-to-date Covid regulations, offering face masks, hand sanitiser and social distancing within the work place.
Don’t throw away your old furniture!
If you have just bought a new piece of furniture from Rose & Grey it may mean you have an old one that could do with a new home.
There are a number of furniture recycling organisations all over the country that can benefit from your old furniture. By donating your unwanted goods to these types of charities you may be helping homeless men and women get back on their feet or low income families to set up home. Not forgetting the benefit to the environment by saving waste that may otherwise go to landfill.
There are many worthy charities that sell at low cost to those most in need all over the country. Most of these organisations are run by volunteers and more often than not can come and collect the item, so you don’t have to worry about organising getting it to them.
