How to Work Earthy Tones in your Home

Earthy Tones

We first mentioned 2018’s trend for Earthy Tones back in our trend round-up at the beginning of the year, and it doesn’t seem like this particular colour scheme is going anywhere anytime soon. Blush pink, terracotta and peach tones are absolutely everywhere you look, adorning sofas, accessories and even walls. But how can you work this trend in your own home?

Add accessories

The easiest way to embrace the trend, especially if you don’t usually like bold colour in your home, is to introduce a couple of accessories. Try updating your bedding for a blush pink or terracotta linen duvet set, or perhaps just update your pillow cases and keep your sheets neutral. In your living room, you could add a couple of terracotta plant pots or perhaps a statement rug. If you wish to nod to the trend in an even more subtle way, update your tableware to add a hint of pink at dinner parties.

Think of the details

Want to make more of a statement and add colour in an unusual way? Consider the details in your home that you usually overlook. Could you update the colour of the cord on a pendant light or perhaps even add blush shutters? What about painting a window frame or skirting board?

Invest in statement furniture

If your home boasts a neutral palette, why not add a pop of colour with a piece of investment furniture? Our Nordic armchair in a bold paprika colour perfectly references the trend while looking elegant in an otherwise neutral room. Or perhaps you’re tempted by one of our velvet sofas in an on-trend blush pink velvet fabric? If you pair with neutral walls, polished floorboards and elegant accessories, a large statement piece can complete your room.

Update your kitchen or bathroom

Earthy tones can work in all rooms in the house. We love the idea of updating your kitchen or bathroom by adding blush pink tiles as a splash-back or terracotta tiles on the floor. Think about the look you’d like to achieve – pink tiles will look more contemporary while terracotta works best with a farmhouse or continental-style kitchen.

Think tonal

For the ultimate on-trend look, fully embrace the trend and go tonal. Paint your walls in your chosen hue and choose furniture, lighting and accessories in tonal shades. For the best impact, we recommend painting your wall in the lightest shade and opting for darker furniture, like in the image shown below. You could also achieve this look without painting, by selecting textiles such as rugs and cushions in tones similar to your furniture.

Paint a wall

The easiest way to embrace the trend is to paint a feature wall (or even an entire room) – then you can easily paint over it if you fall out of love with the colour!
