It’s been almost a year since the Rose & Grey team (and most of the nation) started working from home (or WFH, as we fondly call it). Some of us have dedicated office spaces, others have been repurposing our dining tables, sofas or window seats – but we’ve all adapted to the ‘new normal’. Twelve months of WFH later, we thought we’d share our personal top tips that have helped us to get used to working in our own homes. We all miss each other and our lovely office environment, but here are the ways we’ve settled into our new routines.

“Create morning routines the same way you would if you were heading to the office. Whether it’s a regular morning walk, taking some time for breakfast at the table or (actually) ironing your outfit, these little signals have helped to set me up for the day in a way that feels focused and structured.”
Lauren, Marketing Manager
“I don’t have a home office or even a desk at home, so I’ve had to improvise where I work, changing between my dining table and a comfy chair beside the window. Be careful that you don’t hurt your back working at a table that isn’t designed as a desk – moving around throughout the day helps to ensure that you aren’t hunched over in one spot all day. I also make sure I pack everything away at the end of the day, so I’m not looking at work paraphernalia when trying to relax in the evening.”
Emma, Creative Content Manager
“With the divide between work and home life now practically non-existent, I make sure I clean my desk each evening when I am finished for the day and then I head out for a walk. This helps my mind switch off from being in ‘work mode’ in the same way the commute used to. By the time I arrive back at my front door, I have my ‘at home’ head on and am planning what to cook for dinner.”
Jess, PR Manager
“I like to give myself a strict routine that I stick to each day to make sure that I won’t have a shock when we return to the office. I wake up at the same time that I would if I was commuting, have breakfast, then go for a run before I start work. I always break for lunch and step away from my laptop to grab a bite to eat.”
Tish, Ecommerce Executive
“Sticking to the normal routine is the best approach for me. Whether that’s getting dressed ready for the day, or regularly checking in on and catching up with my team. I like to remind myself that everyone is still there and up for a catch up over a brew – even if from afar!”
Daisy, Showroom & Customer Services Executive
“I’ve learnt I’m much more productive when I create the right environment, such as having some background noise with music or a podcast, the right lighting, a comfy chair, and everything I need within easy reach. And also how important it is to take breaks from sitting down, stand up, shake it all out and grab a cuppa every once in a while!”
