Restaurants may be closed for the foreseeable future, but that doesn’t mean you can’t cook gourmet meals and set a fancy table for two at home. Even if you don’t feel like cooking up a storm in the kitchen, you can easily spruce up beans on toast by serving dinner on a posh plate. We thought we’d share our top table styling tips to help you make your dining table look more like a fancy restaurant. A glass of fizz is optional!

Lay a linen tablecloth to add texture

Whether you have a posh marble dining table or your table has seen better days, you can instantly create a restaurant atmosphere by laying down a linen tablecloth. Any colour will work, dependent on your decor but simple white will look stylish with any tableware whereas a bold pop of colour looks beautiful with neutral crockery.

Set a theme

We like to work with a colour palette when we’re styling tableware, combining textures to add interest. For the table setting below, we complemented our white scalloped plates with pretty pastels and hints of gold. The colours of the bowls were reflected in the dried flowers and the candle to tie everything together.

Mix-and-match crockery

We like to use matching plates but to mix things up and add interest by adding contrasting bowls and side plates. Our tableware range is designed to be easy to mix and match – as demonstrated in the image below with our Marwin, Ally and Fiona crockery adding interest to our Frances white scalloped plates. These plates and bowls have similar shapes and tones, allowing them to sit pretty together.

Get creative with decorations

A simple way to add interest to your table is to get creative with dried flowers or grasses. Leave a sprig on each plate as a stylish place setting, and style a bouquet in a vase as a centrepiece. If you haven’t got dried flowers to hand, pick fresh flowers from your garden.

Embrace colour and print

Our Shapes tableware collection is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a bolder table setting. If you’re going for statement plates, tone them down by pairing with a white tablecloth, simple gold cutlery and little fuss. Let your plates be the star of your table.
